The fumonisins (B1, B2, and B3) are a group of mycotoxins produced by the fungi Fusarium moniliforme. Fumonisins have been found worldwide as a contaminant of maize and have been shown to cause liver cancer in experimental rats, pulmonary edema in pigs, and leukoencephalomalacia in horses. High levels of fumonisins in locally grown maize have been found in areas of the world that have a high prevalence of human esophageal cancer, for instance, in South Africa and China. Due to the health concerns related to fumonisin, Hygiena™ offers Helica™ Fumonisin ELISA test kits. Helica™ Fumonisin ELISAs are competitive enzyme-linked immunoassays intended for the quantitative detection of fumonisins in maize and urine.

Ochratoxin A is a toxic secondary metabolite produced by several molds of the Aspergillus and Penicillium genera, including Aspergillus ochraceus. Exposure to Ochratoxin A has been linked to Balkan endemic nephropathy (BEN), a chronic kidney disease associated with tumors of the renal system. Impairment of the renal system has also been reported in swine. Ochratoxin A has been frequently detected in human foods and animal feed, mainly in cereals and grain products, although a wide range of commodities has been found to contain the toxin. These include grains, green and roasted coffee, cocoa, spices, and grape derivatives such as raisins, grape juice, and wines. Due to the wide range of commodities found to contain ochratoxin and the health hazards related to the mycotoxin, Hygiena™ offers a variety of Helica™ Ochratoxin ELISAs. Our Helica™ Ochratoxin ELISAs are competitive enzyme-linked immunoassays intended for the quantitative detection of Ochratoxin A levels in grains, cereals, coffee, milk, serum, urine, and several other validated commodities including animal feed and cannabis.

T-2 toxin belongs to the type A trichothecene mycotoxins and is one of the most toxic secondary metabolites produced by several fungi of the genus Fusarium. Due to the typical stability of the trichothecene family, T-2 toxin is able to withstand processing procedures and can commonly be found in animal feed and food. Its contamination has been implicated to be responsible for health problems primarily because of its ability to inhibit protein synthesis in both humans and animals. T-2 toxin can cause symptoms such as weight loss or reduced weight gain, diarrhea, dermal necrosis, and dyspnea. Therefore, it is necessary to use sensitive methods for its detection. Hygiena™ offers a high sensitivity approach to testing for T-2 Toxin using the Helica™ T-2 Toxin ELISA, which is a competitive enzyme-linked immunoassay intended for the quantitative detection of T-2 Toxin in cereal and animal feed.
Helica™ T-2 Toxin ELISA’s allow users a cost-effective & user-friendly way to rapidly test for T-2 Toxin in a wide range of validated commodities.

Zearalenone is a potent non-steroidal estrogenic metabolite produced by several fungal genera, specifically Gibberella and Fusarium. Some of the more common adverse effects from zearalenone include breeding problems and infertility in farm animals, with female swine being the most susceptible to these estrogenic effects. Zearalenone is frequently found in cereal crops, including maize, barley, oats, wheat, rice, and sorghum. Due to the wide range of commodities zearalenone can be detected in, analytical methods such as ELISA are a useful means to provide rapid screening and identification of samples containing high levels of zearalenone. The Helica™ Zearalenone Low Matrix ELISA is a competitive enzyme-linked immunoassay intended for the quantitative detection of zearalenone in cereal crops, such as maize, barley, oats, wheat, rice, bread, and animal feeds.
Helica Zearalenone Low Matrix ELISA allows users a cost-effective & user-friendly way to rapidly test for Zearalenone in a wide range of validated commodities.
