The MBW CALIBRATION™ MODEL 973-SF6™ Dew Point Chilled Mirror Analyzer is a portable instrument equipped with an integral measuring head for both spot and continuous measurement of dew/frost point in air and other gases. Based on the chilled mirror principle, the 973 provides fundamental, drift free and precise humidity measurement. For many applications it is a transfer standard.
The MODEL 973 Dew Point Chilled Mirror Analyzer also measures pressure and temperature with high accuracy and includes features that enable alternative humidity parameters such RH, ppmv, vapor pressure and absolute humidity. Unique features enable fast response in spot check applications and users can self-check instrument calibration stability using the integrated Ice-Test function. All versions of the 973 are supplied a tough transport case that protects this valuable instrument when moving around site or when shipped for calibration.
The MODEL 973-SF6 Dew Point Chilled Mirror Analyzer is a portable instrument designed for measuring the dew point of SF6 gas. SF6 is a commonly used insulating gas in electrical power transmission and distribution equipment, and accurate dew point measurements are crucial for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the equipment.
It utilizes a chilled mirror dew point sensor to measure the dew point temperature of SF6 gas. The gas sample is collected from the equipment being tested and then passed through a pre-filter to remove any particulate matter. The gas then flows through a mirror-cooled by a Peltier element, causing any moisture in the gas to condense on the mirror surface. The dew point temperature is determined by measuring the temperature at which condensation occurs on the mirror surface.
The MODEL 973-SF6 Dew Point Chilled Mirror Analyzer is offers several benefits such as:
The MODEL 973-SF6™ Dew Point Chilled Mirror Analyzer is widely used in the electrical power industry, including power transmission and distribution companies, power plant operators, and electrical equipment manufacturers, to ensure the safe and reliable operation of SF6-insulated equipment.
The MODEL 973-SF6 Dew Point Chilled Mirror Analyzer is primarily used in the electrical power industry for the measurement of moisture content in SF6 gas insulated equipment such as gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) and circuit breakers. This is because moisture can cause insulation failure and equipment damage in these applications.
It can is also used in other industries that use SF6 gas such as the semiconductor industry, which uses SF6 gas as a dielectric gas for plasma etching, and the magnesium industry, which uses SF6 gas as a cover gas in the casting process.

Our MBW CALIBRATION™ T12™ Thermometer is a precise and stable platinum resistance thermometer (PRT) multi-channel temperature measurement system. Using a custom designed high quality measurement circuit, 24 bit analog to digital converters and multiplexor sampling; the T12 provides 12 channels of precise temperature data for validation and calibration engineers. T12 repeatedly scans all 12 channels and the low and high range internal reference resistors, with user configurable excitation current. Employing a full reversal current source, the T12 eliminates polarity sensitive errors inherent in DC measuring techniques.
The GeckoR2™ software supplied allows each channel to be individually configured with ITS-90 or Callendar-Van Dusen coefficients for direct conversion of resistance to temperature. The T12 connects to a PC through an RS-232 Interface. An RS232 to USB converter is included. There are four versions available, the T12, T12-S, T12-SE and the T12-E. The new ‘S’ versions feature Smart Connectors that are configured usingGeckoR2with coefficients and calibration corrections, probe position and unique identifiers.

A typical application of the T12 Thermometer is the validation of temperature uniformity in climatic chambers, incubators, ovens and humidity generators. In combination with dew point measurement data from an MBW dew point mirror, the T12 can also be used to determine relative humidity uniformity directly within GeckoR2 software. This means that development, validation and calibration engineers can directly assess performance and observe the effects of changes in system settings in real time.
TempControl™ is a software utility for MBW CALIBRATION™ dew point mirrors that allows you to set the mirror temperature to a desired value. This can be useful in test and troubleshooting scenarios.
Setting the mirror temperature below the prevailing dew or frost point will result in condensation that can build substantially – avoid making ice pyramids!
Setting a mirror temperature value lower than the instrument specification can cause overheating and damage, avoid this too. We would suggest monitoring the measuring head temperature during testing, this can be selected from the Parameter menu.
Gecko R2™ is our MBW CALIBRATION™ in-house developed software for use with all MBW products and Thunder humidity generators. It enables users to visualize measurement data numerically and graphically, with configurable channels, scaling and statistical analysis. It includes automated data acquisition. Whenever an instrument is connected, all possible measurement variables are automatically recorded to a log file including serial numbers and time-date information.
An included feature is the ability to define set points for humidity and temperature so that compatible humidity generators or temperature equipment can be programmed to run automatic calibration profiles. This means that engineers are able to fully automate calibration with set point control and automatic date acquisition. Data files are produced that show both the generated value and the measured value from the transfer standard hygrometer or thermometer.
