Hanna Instruments has had a long history of producing innovative portable meters. Innovations include the first portable conductivity meter in 1980 that used a four-electrode design to allow the measurement across a variety of ranges. In 1984 we introduced the first microprocessor based portable. The microprocessor allowed for automatic calibration instead of using trimmers for manual calibration. In 1990, Hanna introduced the first waterproof portable meter. Waterproof portable meters are now the standard across many industries due to the potential for getting wet, water or solutions, which could damage the sensitive electronics. We continue to use the best available technology to introduce enhancements to the measurement system to help ensure the accurate and reliable readings.
Portable meters are available for the following categories:
For the measurement of pH, the HI98190 comes with an HI12963 titanium body amplified pH electrode with a built-in temperature sensor for automatic temperature compensated readings. The titanium probe body is chemically resistant to aggressive chemicals and is virtually unbreakable. The HI12963 pH/temperature electrode features a newly designed Quick Connect DIN connector that provides a simple waterproof connection without any threads.
Hanna’s unique CAL Check™ feature alerts the user to potential problems during the calibration process. By comparing previous calibration data to the current calibration, the meter will alert the user with display prompts when the probe needs to be cleaned or is broken, and if the pH buffer might be contaminated. After calibration, the overall probe condition is displayed as a percentage from 0 to 100% in increments of 10%. The probe condition is affected by both the offset and slope characteristics of the pH electrode and is displayed on the measurement screen on the day of calibration and in the GLP data. Calibration can be performed up to five points with seven preprogrammed standard pH buffers and five custom ones to achieve a pH accuracy of ±0.002 with ±0.001 pH resolution.
Pressing the “AutoHold” virtual key seen in measurement mode, the meter will freeze a stable reading, allowing for the reading to be documented or logged. An “out of calibration range” warning can be enabled that will alert the user when a reading is not within the bracket of calibrated pH values.
The log-on-demand mode allows the user to record and save up to 200 samples (100 for pH and 100 for mV). This data, along with the associated GLP data, can then be transferred to a PC with Hanna’s HI920015 micro USB cable and HI92000 software.
The high contrast graphic LCD is easy to read outdoors in bright sunlight as well as in low-lit areas with the use of the backlight. A combination of dedicated and virtual keys allows easy, intuitive operation in a choice of languages.
The compact, durable carrying case is thermoformed to hold all necessary components for taking a field measurement, including the meter and electrode, beakers, buffer solutions, cleaning solutions, and storage solutions.
Setup screen
Our extensive setup screen features a host of configurable options such as time, date, temperature units and language for help screens and guides.
Calibration

Portable pH/ISE meters are available in multiple designs and features. The portables include versions with BNC connectors for ISEs and are available with direct concentration readout or those that use the mV scale. The portable with direct ion concentration readout features:
The HI98191 is a rugged, portable pH/ORP/ISE meter with the performance and features of a benchtop meter. This professional, waterproof meter complies with IP67 standards and measures pH, ORP, ISE, and temperature. The HI98191 is supplied with all necessary accessories to perform a pH/temperature measurement packaged into a durable carrying case.
For the measurement of pH the HI98191 comes with a HI72911B titanium body pH electrode with a built-in temperature sensor for automatic temperature compensated readings. The titanium body is chemically resistant to aggressive chemicals and is virtually unbreakable.
Hanna’s unique CAL Check™ feature alerts the user to potential problems during the pH calibration process. By comparing previous calibration data to the current calibration the meter will alert the user with display prompts when the probe needs to be cleaned or is broken and if the pH buffer might be contaminated. After calibration the overall probe condition is displayed as a percentage from 0 to 100% in increments of 10%. The probe condition is affected by both the offset and slope characteristics of the pH electrode and is displayed on the measurement screen on the day of calibration and in the GLP data. pH calibration can be performed up to five points with seven preprogrammed standard pH buffers and five custom ones to achieve a pH accuracy of ±0.002 with ±0.001 pH resolution.
The HI98191 has 15 different ISE sensors preprogrammed within the meter. By selecting the appropriate ISE in the ISE Setup Menu, the appropriate ion charge and ion molar weight are applied to display ISE slope percentage. Users can then calibrate up to five points with the choice of six standard values. This meter allows an extensive choice of measurement units (ppm, ppt, g/L, ppb, μg/L, mg/mL, M, mol/L, mmol/L, % w/v, user defined) and has an expanded measuring range of 1.00 x 10-7 to 9.99 x 1010.
Pressing the “AutoHold” virtual key seen in measurement mode, the meter will freeze a stable reading allowing for the reading to be documented or logged. An “out of calibration range” warning can be enabled that will alert the user when a reading is not within the bracket of calibrated pH values.
The log-on-demand mode allows the user to record and save up to 300 samples (100 each for pH, mV, and ISE). This data along with the associated GLP data can then be transferred to a PC with Hanna’s HI920015 micro USB cable and HI92000 software.
Access help at any time at a press of a dedicated button and view content specific information based on the screen that is currently being viewed.
The high contrast graphic LCD is easy to read outdoors in bright sunlight as well in low-lit areas with the backlight. A combination of dedicated and virtual keys allows easy, intuitive operation in a choice of languages.
The compact, durable carrying case is thermoformed to hold all necessary components for taking a field measurement, including the meter, electrode and beakers.

Multiparameter portable meters have the ability to measure multiple parameters including pH, ORP, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, turbidity, temperature, pressure, and specific ions with the use of either chloride, ammonium or nitrate ISE.
The multiparameter meters can be broken down into three main categories.
Many meters that measure conductivity allow other units to be displayed including Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), resistivity, and salinity.
The following portable meters use an amperometric (two-electrode) technology to measure conductivity. With this technology the ranges are limited to either a low or high range version. A variety of pH/EC portable meters are available including application specific versions for water treatment, agriculture, and hydroponics. Also included in this category is a portable with a pH/ORP probe.
