All of our microphones are Class+ high performance ½” Pre-polarised Electret condenser capsules specially designed for noise measurement using Sound Level Meters and other instruments.
At the top of the range, the PM1 Class 1 capsule is fitted to several leading brands of Sound Level Meters, including Pulsar Instruments, as well as other noise measurement instruments. For may applications, such as quick spot checks and noise at work assessments the use of this highly accurate microphone capsule is excessive; a Class 2 specification microphone capsule is equally acceptable and compliant for these purposes as well as being significantly more cost-effective. The PM2 is the Class 2 variant capsule and is fitted as standard to all of Pulsar’s Class 2 sound Level meters (with the exception of the Model 14 Low Cost Decibel Meter).
In addition to the accuracy afforded by the Class 1 PM1, the capsule also offers excellent long term stability and temperature stability making the capsule ideal for use in long-term outdoor noise monitoring applications.
Microphone capsule features include:
A bespoke lightweight NoisePen kit carrying case designed specifically to hold your valuable noise measuring equipment and protect it from accidental harm.
Choose from one of two options depending on how many NoisePens you have.
Each case has space for an acoustic calibrator, NoisePen mounts and the NoisePens themselves.
Pulsar Nova Microphone Extension Cables connect between the Nova and the removable preamp supplied with the Pulsar Nova range of Decibel Meters to allow you to remotely position the microphone.
A range of cables, extension cables and connectors for use with the Pulsar Nova range Sound Level Meters
For power input cables, please state whether UK, Europe, USA or Aus plugs are required.
The Remote Start Keyfob for NoiseBadge dosemeter can be used instead of the Reader Unit to Start and Stop Pulsar NoiseBadge Dosemeters. The Start and Stop buttons on the Keyfob are used to send commands to the noise dosemeter.
When the Start or Stop buttons are pressed, the Status indicator will light to show that the button has been pressed. The Infrared signal is sent from the transmitter on the front of the Keyfob.
A Reader Unit is still required to calibrate and reset the individual dosemeters but the Keyfob can be more convenient to use, especially when there is a need to socially distance or where a persons shift differs to that of the health and safety officer, or the worker operates from a remote location.
Flashing Warning Beacon
Choose to add a high visibility flashing noise warning beacon in Red or Blue to your SafeEar Master to make it even more obvious to your employees and visitors when your pre-set noise levels have been exceeded and hearing protection must be worn. The flashing beacon is triggered automatically when the Pulsar SafeEar noise-activated warning sign lights up in warning.
The Beacon cable is attached to the SafeEar Master Unit, but the 10-meter long cable supplied as standard with the beacon means the beacon itself can be placed elsewhere.
You can also make the Pulsar SafeEar Data Logging to record data high noise levels.
Record and store your noise measurements with Pulsar SafeEar Data Logging Software
The Pulsar SafeEar can be upgraded to become a data logging unit by adding the Pulsar SafeEar Data Logger for noise monitoring and USB Software. The Data Logger simply plugs into the Pulsar SafeEar Master Unit and can record noise levels over long periods of time.
The Data Logger can be programmed to start recording at a specific time and date and run, for example, over an 8-hour shift (taking measurements at 1-second intervals) or for up to 22 days (if taking measurements at 1-minute intervals).
When the Data Logger is plugged into a PC the software will display a graph of the recorded noise levels and allow the data to be printed, exported and annotated for reference. This allows you to undertake noise monitoring and keep a track of noise levels over time.
You can also add a flashing warning beacon to your SafeEar Master Unit – choose a Red or Blue high density flashing beacon triggered by your pre-set noise levels.
We supply our tripods as a standard accessory with our outdoor noise monitoring kit, they can also be purchased separately for static noise measurement applications indoors or outside. Our tripods are durable and robust for outside conditions.
This fully height-adjustable tripod provides a steady hold even on uneven surfaces and is suitable for use with all of Pulsar’s sound level meters. It is provided as standard with the Pulsar Nova outdoor noise measuring kit but may also be bought separately.
Continuing to take Hand-Arm Vibration measurements whilst sticking to the social distancing guidelines can be a challenge, that’s why we’ve introduced a 2m extension cable for the Pulsar vB meter, ensuring you can still take measurements and you and the person you’re measuring stays safe.
The cable is a very simple, plug and play item. It has been thoroughly tested to ensure that it’s use does not impact your measurements.
The standard Pulsar vB cable is 1.5m, so with this extension cable you will have a total of 3.5m between you and the person holding the power tool you are measuring allowing you to maintain the social distancing guidelines and some! The cable material is even a different colour so you can easily identify where the 2m begins.
A windshield is a vital part of your noise measurement equipment for several reasons, not only do they reduce the effects of wind and air movement across your noise meter’s microphone, they also help protect it from damage and help keep it clean and free of dust.
We’ve designed our windshield for noise meters perfectly so they allow the changes in air pressure from noise to be measured whilst ensuring microphone protection from wind, dust and damage.
There are three key reasons:
Microphone capsules are designed to be sensitive to and react to changes in air pressure. These changes can be very small when the noise levels are down to 20dB or quite large when the noise levels are over 140dB. A microphone capsule that is this sensitive is all susceptible to picking up disturbance from wind which can affect your noise measurements, it is, therefore, vital when you are taking measurements outside that you use a windshield to reduce as much as possible, the effects of wind upon the measurements.
We’ve designed our windshields to fit our noise meters perfectly so they allow the changes in air pressure from noise to be measured whilst reducing the turbulence that wind can create.
The microphone capsule on your sound level meter is the most important part of the instrument. It’s the microphone that converts changes in air pressure into an electrical signal which tells the instrument the noise level. It is also the most delicate part of your sound level meter; if the capsule gets damaged any noise measurements taken could be incorrect.
Using a windshield for noise meters, even when you are taking measurements indoors, can protect the microphone capsule from any knocks and bangs that might occur from carrying the sound level meter around or from when you are actually taking measurements.
The microphone capsule is made with a thin and delicate microphone diaphragm inside which moves with the changes in air (sound) pressure. This delicate moving part is susceptible to things like water, dust and dirt which can all affect the way the microphone performs and measures noise.
Using a windshield for all your noise measurements helps to protect your noise meter’s microphone from potential contaminants and helps to keep it working accurately.
